Classic Cows in Carrington, ND
Greetings from the Guthmillers. We are located near Carrington, North Dakota, which is centrally located between the cities of Fargo, Grand Forks, Bismarck, and Minot. My husband and I and our two children started with 3 cows and a bull back in 2010. We both work full time jobs and the cows are our "fun". We actually had to move our entire farm the summer of 2014, but although it was ridiculously hard work, we are set up better and should be able to grow old where we are now. |

These cows are our passion. We strive to produce common sense cattle. Our cows don't have papers, but we make sure our cattle are feed/grass efficient, they produce milk... some can even be your family milk cow. They are hardy, they can withstand the hot summer as well as the cold winters. They are easy to work with and don't have bad attitudes. They are classic size, which means they are not tiny little pets, and they are not gigantic animals. They are just the right size to fill your freezer full of meat. And we like to produce color... white park, red or black white faces. We don't want to see the same old thing day after day. We of course would like to generate a little revenue, but even if we don't we will still do, what we do, because we love it. This way of life and having clean wholesome beef in the freezer is success.
We are producing healthy, easy to handle cattle so that we can feed our family!... and hopefully yours. We are raising cattle that nearly anyone can raise... you don't need big fancy equipment or a lot of land. That's why we keep them a manageable size. Also we don't want to feed our kids beef that has been filled full of hormones and pushed feed to make the animal achieve market weight as fast as possible. That's not clean meat to me. Our cattle are raised on grass and hay. They do not receive any hormones or antibiotics. We try to keep our cows from 800 to 1000 pounds and bulls around 1000 pounds. Their height is usually armpit level at max. Calves are born anywhere from 40 to 60 pounds at birth and wean around 400-600 pounds at 6 months of age. Our cattle eat treats out of our hand and are really easy going. A round up consists of rattling a bucket and they all come running. It's nearly impossible to chase a cow because they are so tame. Usually it's easier to show them the way and they will follow. They are bred to be able to keep their condition during our long, frigid North Dakota winters, as well as our hot, humid summers. We are always happy to answer any questions you might have of us or the cows. Please give us a call or email us with the info on our contact page.
We have just a small herd right now. It is all we can handle with trying to work our jobs and raise the cows, especially trying to make hay after 5 weeknights and weekends only. But our dream has always been to run a cattle ranch and finally the dream has come true. We have truly been blessed in our lives to be able to live this life. Our kids are also a blessing and really make this possible... they take on responsibilities without even being asked so that we can all work together... which really isn't work to us! We are doing our best to take care of God's earth and His creatures, which in turn take care of us. We are thankful every day for the blessings He has given us. And thank you for stopping by and reading our story.
